01 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission to the B.Ed. Programme must have completed their education under the 10+2+3 (or 11+1+3) pattern and obtained a UG Degree from a UGC-recognized University in a relevant subject offered at the Secondary or Higher Secondary level.
Candidates who have not completed the prescribed pattern of education are not eligible for admission.

For subjects such as Tamil, English, Mathematics, Physical Science, Biological Science, History and Computer Science, the minimum qualifying marks in the Undergraduate Degree are as follows
For subjects such as Commerce, Economics, Home Science, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Logic and Indian Culture, a Postgraduate Degree with not less than 50% marks in the same subject is mandatory.Rounding off of marks to the next higher integer is not permitted.

Candidates who possess a Postgraduate Degree in relevant subjects are eligible subject to the condition that the major subject in both UG and PG must be the same. For certain subjects such as Commerce and Economics, PG qualification is compulsory as per University norms.
Integrated PG Degree holders (5-year programmes) are also eligible, and eligibility will be determined based on marks obtained as per University regulations.

Candidates who have completed UG Degree through Open University System are eligible only if they have passed 10th Standard and +2 examinations under the recognized pattern of education.
Candidates who have obtained a UG Degree without completing 10th and +2 examinations are not eligible, even if they subsequently qualify in those examinations.

Engineering Candidates Eligibility

Candidates who have completed Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science or Mathematics are eligible for admission to B.Ed. Programme in subjects such as Physical Science, Biological Science, Mathematics and Computer Science as per University norms.

Equivalent Subjects

  • Candidates with degrees in Applied Mathematics may apply for Mathematics.
  • Candidates with Applied Physics, Geo-Physics or Electronics may apply for Physical Science.
  • Candidates with Applied Chemistry may apply for Physical Science.
  • Candidates with Biotechnology, Plant Biology, Microbiology or Environmental Science may apply for Biological Science.
  • Candidates with Computer Science, Information Technology or Computer Applications may apply for Computer Science.
  • If a candidate’s degree subject is not explicitly covered, an Equivalence Certificate from the concerned University is required.

Weightage Rules

Candidates possessing higher qualifications are awarded weightage marks for ranking purposes as follows

  • PG Degree – 4 marks
  • M.Phil. – 5 marks
  • Ph.D. – 6 marks

However, the minimum eligibility marks prescribed by the University are mandatory irrespective of weightage.
